Autumn Means Rain And Rain Means Crafts!

Posted on September 19, 2008 - Filed Under Fatherhood | Leave a Comment

I’ve already shared my rather busy October weekend schedule, what with all the amusement parks running “haunted house” and other Halloween events.  But fall brings more thanjust the greatest holiday ever invented.  It also means that, even here in sunny California, the skies will soon open and dump their loads of life-giving water on to our heads.  While I’m not opposed to rain on general principle, it does tend to limit the activities I’m willing to undertake on my weekends…

California CoasterQuest Continues

Posted on May 16, 2008 - Filed Under Ride Reports | Leave a Comment

My long term goal of riding every roller coaster in California has tripped into high gear with the coming of Spring and all the amusement parks opening up for the year. In fact, next week three new coasters are supposed to be opening here in California: Pony Express at Knott’s Berry Farm (Thursday, May 22nd); Tony Hawk’s Big Spin at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (Friday, May 23rd); and X2 at Six Flags Magic Mountain (Saturday, May 24th). If all works out…

A Different Sun, Surf & Sky Experience

With summer upon us here in Northern California and a major trip coming up soon I’ve been trying to explore some different ways for Z and I to enjoy the weather in the great outdoors. Z’s already been to Great America three times in the last 6 weeks, and I can’t afford the gas to Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo nor the cost of our Boardwalk season passes until next payday. Plus I’ve been trying to find a way to get…

Now THAT’S What Saturday Should Be

Personally, I’ve always believed that Saturday’s are the day to spend doing whatever makes you happy. Yesterday was pretty much the perfect model for a Saturday.

Z and I started out lying in bed for our traditional Saturday morning cartoon ‘n’ cuddlefest - currently featuring my favorite mild-mannered Janitor, Penrod Pooch, aka Henry the Janitor, aka Hong Kong Phooey. After that a quick trip to the Morgan Hill Mervyns was required for a bra shopping errand. A quick drive-thru McDonald’s breakfast and we…

Another Day At The Races

Posted on February 4, 2008 - Filed Under Road Trippin' | Leave a Comment

After getting absolutely soaked at Fisherman’s Wharf on Saturday, Z and I found a Motel 6 in Oakland that was only $70 with a friendly staff and a great room. They pointed us to a breakfast spot called Nikko’s that seriously rocked as well. Then it was off to the races…

A couple of weeks back I took Z to the racetrack for her very first time. While we were there we learned that on Super Bowl Sunday they would be having 8 drawings…

Rainy Evening At Fisherman’s Wharf

Posted on February 4, 2008 - Filed Under Road Trippin' | Leave a Comment

Saturday afternoon Z had a memorial service to attend, so our weekend got a late start. Without any real plan, we headed north on 280 and cut over to PCH (Highway 1) via Highway 92. The section of PCH between Half Moon Bay and San Francisco has now been checked off Z’s list of highways traveled. Unfortunately we didn’t really stop at any of the nifty sites along the way as Z still hasn’t learned to speak up and ask…
