Wandering Through The Greater Los Angeles Area
Posted on August 7, 2008 - Filed Under Travel | Leave a Comment
Our last summer road trip was yet another occasion when I should have taken the advice I give out on this blog and turned to the online travel guides from Trusted Tours and Attractions instead of simply flying by the seat of my pants. Z and I had four days and wanted to make the most of them (while not blowing a fortune on gas money), so headed down to the LA area to hit up some of the key attractions. …

Who Says You Can’t Cuddle On The Road?
Posted on August 3, 2008 - Filed Under Road Trippin', Travel | Leave a Comment
The only thing Z and I enjoy more than road trippin’ is Saturday morning cuddle time. We curl up together, each wrapped in a fuzzy blanket and watch whatever classic cartoon series that I’ve decided to indoctrinate her with (currently Hong Kong Phooey). Alas, it has been difficult to combine these two loves. We did start taking along the laptop to watch our cartoons, but then we end up with the mediocre or scratchy motel blankets which, frankly, aren’t conducive to…

Car Rental For $1 A Day? Now, That’s An Advantage!
Posted on July 10, 2008 - Filed Under Road Trippin', Travel | Leave a Comment
Working so many hours I find myself seeking more and more interesting vacation ideas. These days my most frequent problem isn’t paying for the vacation itself, but losing the time at work (working in social services provides zero traditional benefits like sick/vacation time). This, of course, means I need to fly to places instead of drive, which leaves me stuck with either only visiting locations next to major airports, numerous taxi fees or exploring car rental options.
Sometimes the car rental agencies themselves…

X2 - Xtreme Roller Coaster Pain at Six Flags Magic Mountain
Posted on July 9, 2008 - Filed Under Ride Reports | Leave a Comment
Last fall I made an “emergency” trip down to Six Flags Magic Mountain to be one of the last people to ever ride X, their Arrow Dynamics created prototype 4th dimension coaster, before they did a $10 Million revamp and transformed it into X2. I was very much not impressed, rating it a 3 on a scale of 1-10.

In May I paid for Z and her mother to spend the night in Magic Mountain and get to be some of the…

My Personal TSA Nightmare
Posted on May 16, 2008 - Filed Under Fatherhood, Travel | Leave a Comment
Okay, Nightmare is too strong a word for it, but it makes for a much stronger title than “My Personal TSA Bad Experience”
I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it here before, but Z collects snowglobes from the places that she’s visited. Thus far she has somewhere in the neighborhood of 40. Not too bad for a 12 year old, in my opinion. While in Myrtle Beach she picked up another half dozen or so at the various spots we…

World’s Largest Visitor Center? I Think Not!
Posted on May 14, 2008 - Filed Under Road Trippin' | Leave a Comment
As my regular readers know Z and I love to road trip. To me part of the joy of road trippin’ is finding all the great local spots that the tourists normally miss. After all, isn’t that what travel is supposed to be all about? One of the resources we use to find interesting unadvertised attractions is local visitor’s centers. So we’ve seen quite a few. However, Myrtle Beach may well be the Visitor’s Center capital of the world with…
