Whiny Actors Consider Following Whiny Writers Path
Posted on November 25, 2008 - Filed Under Living Free | Leave a Comment
It was just last year that the television writers went on strike. You may not remember because the only real effect it had was on television news: they couldn’t stop talking about it. Well, it was shortly after that strike was resolved that I gave up on television all together. So, imagine my surprise when I stumble across the story today that now the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) is considering following the trail blazed by the television writers and going…

Labor Unions And Freedom Don’t Mix
Posted on August 27, 2008 - Filed Under Living Free | 2 Comments
It’s been a very busy summer and I’ve allowed myself to get off track here at Philaahzophy, essentially ignoring the fight for freedom that I started on its pages. However, with Labor Day being celebrated this coming Monday here in the United States I thought it was about time I revisited a topic I promised to further expound upon all the way back in November 2007 in a post titled Reason #1,872 To Detest Striking Workers. A couple weeks back my anarchist and free market credentials were (once again) called into question by a visitor because I thought the television writer’s strike was ridiculous. I promised a follow up on how I can be both for a free market and anti-union. Well, as often happens, someone else did it better than I could, so I’ll just point you to them for now. First, some specifics on the “poor” conditions these writers are “forced” to work in…

Reason #1,872 To Detest Striking Workers
Posted on November 8, 2007 - Filed Under Aahz | 4 Comments
I’ve never understood the concept of going on strike. If you’re unsatisfied with your work conditions, pay scale or benefits, quit your job and find another one. If you aren’t satisfied with any of the offers in your industry: quit and find another one. I suppose I’ll have to do a post on the evils of labor unions under our current system in the near future, but for now I just want to point out the irony that Wired first pointed…
