Christmas At Six Flags Discovery Kingdom - Holiday In The Park

Posted on December 1, 2008 - Filed Under Ride Reports | Leave a Comment

Zaira and I attended opening weekend of the second annual Holiday In The Park celebration at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom on Saturday.  This event is really starting to come together and we had a wonderful time.  Arriving early we were able to get our photos taken with numerous Loony Tunes characters and holiday mascots before the park even officially opened.  The theme for this year’s event was Land, Sea and Snow (playing off the park’s three themed areas of Land, Sea and…

Halloween Plans Shaping Up

Posted on September 16, 2008 - Filed Under Fatherhood | Leave a Comment

Despite my being abandoned last Halloween, it remains my favorite holiday.  And we’re not fooling around this year as we’re starting to celebrate on October 3.  Here’s our agenda-

  • Friday October 3 - Halloween Haunt (opening night) at California’s Great America
  • Saturday October 4 - Halloween Haunt at Knott’s Scary Farm (aka Knott’s Berry Farm)
  • Sunday October 5 - Miley Cyrus’ Sweet 16 Party at Disneyland (okay, not strictly speaking Halloweeny, but the park will have its Halloween decorations up, including the Nightmare Before Christmas…

X2 - Xtreme Roller Coaster Pain at Six Flags Magic Mountain

Posted on July 9, 2008 - Filed Under Ride Reports | Leave a Comment

Last fall I made an “emergency” trip down to Six Flags Magic Mountain to be one of the last people to ever ride X, their Arrow Dynamics created prototype 4th dimension coaster, before they did a $10 Million revamp and transformed it into X2. I was very much not impressed, rating it a 3 on a scale of 1-10.

In May I paid for Z and her mother to spend the night in Magic Mountain and get to be some of the…

California’s Great America Has Not-So-Great Opening

Posted on April 11, 2008 - Filed Under Ride Reports | 3 Comments

As a roller coaster junkie I was really looking forward to opening day of California’s Great America. Although not a new park (Great America has been in Santa Clara for more than 30 years now) March 16th was the first public operation day under the new name and under Cedar Fair’s watch. I’ve only been to one Cedar Fair park in the past (Cedar Point back in the 80s), but their reputation in the roller coaster community is huge. So…

World’s Largest Christmas Tree, or… Robbed On The Midway!

Part of the Carnival Midway Games Series - Previous in series         Next in series

Despite the Christmas trip being cancelled, Z and I headed up to Vallejo and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom on Saturday. The trip was canceled because I was no longer going to support her spoiled nature. The DK trip was permissible because she paid her own way. The primary motivation for the trip (other than riding Medusa) was “The Biggest Christmas Tree In The World”. And let…

Cancelling The Christmas Trip

Posted on December 17, 2007 - Filed Under Fatherhood, Road Trippin', Travel | Leave a Comment

It took me six months to plan it, three months to pay for it and less than a week to cancel it entirely, losing about $650 in the process. Here was the itinerary:

  1. 12/26 - Early morning pickup of Z, heading up to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo for a day of wild rides and coaster fun followed by an evening of watching Z ooh and ahh over the Holiday in the Park decor and the World’s Largest Christmas Tree. The…
