Looking At Long-Term Investment Results

Posted on August 10, 2008 - Filed Under Personal Finance | Leave a Comment

Last night I stumbled into a conversation with a co-worker on the real-world effects of inflation and how it effects savings.  We discussed what savings we’ve done over the last several years and I veered into a tangent about why I prefer to immediately invest my savings in precious metals (gold and silver) rather than hang onto individual bills (mattress account), keep the money in the bank, or invest in the stock market.  As often happens when discussing economics I…

Liberty Dollar / Hawaii Dala Lawsuit Finally Filed

Posted on June 26, 2008 - Filed Under Living Free | Leave a Comment

Liberty Dollar More than seven months after the federal government raided the offices and warehouse of the Liberty Dollar organization (formerly known as NORFED), the much ballyhooed lawsuit has finally been filed … sort of. It took until June 9, 2008 for an actual formal request for the return of the materials to be made, and until June 17, 2008 for a lawsuit demanding the return of the items confiscated to be filed. Why did it take so long? Well according to Bernard…

Confusion Reigns As Dow Has Worst First Day Ever

Posted on January 2, 2008 - Filed Under Education, Personal Finance | 1 Comment

According to MSNBC the Dow Jones Industrial Average had its worst first day of the year, ever today. Oil spiked 4% to $100 per barrel and the Dow dropped around 220 points. Meanwhile, silver prices (where I’m currently investing) barely increased. As a novice investor, none of this makes sense to me. I can read the news reports, I can do the math, but I’m simply failing to see the correlations. I need to take some economics classes, but that’s…

Interest Rate Cuts Mean Metal Prices Are Rising Again

Posted on December 10, 2007 - Filed Under Personal Finance | Leave a Comment

The Federal reserve is expected to cut interest rates by 1/4% again tomorrow morning. This will be the third time The Fed has cut the interest rate this year causing more inflation in their attempts to further manipulate the supposedly free market in America. Last week the Bank of England also cut their interest rate. All these rate cuts are contributing to the weakening power of the dollar, but they could be good for you. That is, if you have…

Why The Liberty Dollar Class Action Suit Is A Non-Starter

Posted on November 16, 2007 - Filed Under Living Free | 13 Comments

I’ve been watching the Liberty Dollar for a couple of years now, but have only mentioned them here in passing because I never quite “got” it. If you don’t know what it is, I’m not really in a very good position to explain it to you other then it’s an alternative currency that is (supposedly) 100% backed by actual precious metal (silver and gold). Well, their offices were raided earlier this week and all of the coins, silver and gold was confiscated…

Part of the Applied Anarchy Series - Previous in series         Next in series

Pull a dollar bill out of your wallet and take a close look at it. What is it worth? $1? Why? After all, it’s simply a piece of paper (cloth for the finicky out there). You only believe it’s worth $1 because the government insists that it is worth $1 and you have faith in the government. More importantly, the people and businesses where you hope…
