Grease For My Squeaky Wheel
Posted on September 24, 2008 - Filed Under Hosting Review, Top Hosting Center | Leave a Comment
Part of the Top Hosting Center Series - Previous in series Next in series
As y’all know, my squabble with my webhosting company blew up over the last few days. It flowed not only into email but on to two other blogs in addition to this one as well. End results - one guy, John Raul, apparently lost the sponsorship of his blog (or possibly his job, or possibly nothing at all); Top Hosting Center’s CEO, Eric Vanier, is…

Part of the Wonderful WordPress Wednesdays Series - Previous in series Next in series
Welcome to the fifth installment of my Wonderful WordPress Wednesday series.
This week we’re going to take take our WordPress blogs into the future! Okay, not literally, but figuratively. Well, maybe not figuratively either, but. Well, just read on…
I’ve been kind of obsessed with the idea of “one-a-day” blogs of late. My original idea was “MyDailyTs” which would present a different t-shirt each day, highlighting its…

One Decade Of Google
Posted on September 7, 2008 - Filed Under Technology | 3 Comments
It suddenly occured to me the other day that, as of today, Google has been a round for a full decade! Happy Birthday Google!!!
Despite the cliche, Google actually was started in a garage just a handful of miles from my home. Today, Larry Page and Sergey Brin are billionaires who single-handedly (double-handedly?) made the internet accessible to millions (if not billions) of technophobes the world over.
As I ponder a decade of Google I both think it can’t be that young…

Posted on April 19, 2008 - Filed Under Blogging, SEO | 11 Comments
FiddyP created an amazing WordPress Plugin last year called CommentLuv and it’s been steadily working its way around the blogosphere.
Essentially, CommentLuv uses fellow blogger’s RSS feeds to automatically append a link to their latest blog post to any comments they leave on a CommentLuv enabled blog. I installed it here at Philaahzophy about 6 months ago and it’s quickly became my favorite WordPress plug-in.
However, a few months back word slowly started spreading that people who use FeedBurner’s excellent RSS service…

Hello! Search Engines! I’m Over Here!
Posted on April 17, 2008 - Filed Under SEO | 4 Comments
Philaahzophy has now been around for roughly a year as a stand alone website. But the search engines don’t really seem to be directing many people my way, so I’ve been teaching myself a little bit more about SEO (Search Engine Optimization) each week, in an attempt to get their attention and show up better on SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages). Self-education is always a slow process, but it’s particularly difficult with SEO as the “right” thing to do is…

Searching For People? Search Spock
Posted on December 12, 2007 - Filed Under Technology | 2 Comments
Sometimes you’re just looking for information. At those times a general purpose search engine is perfect. But sometimes you’re looking for people and that’s where the “big boys” of search all fall apart. What we need is a completely searchable online Who’s Who for whatever it is that interests us. Luckily, we already have one in Spock. I’ve written about Spock before, and have used it a few dozen times since then. Spock’s not only helped me learn more about…
