Paul McCartney Stole My Car!

Regular readers have frequently heard me mention Rover, my 1989 Ford Bronco. When I needed a “new” car, Z and I decided to get something large, despite the extra gas costs, so we could be comfortable on road trips. Rover filled the bill so well that we no longer actually go road tripping. Instead, we go ‘Rover Tripping’.

We love Rover (despite the fact he needs a new transmission), but imagine my surprise when my local radio station shared the following news story.

Legally Blind On the Boardwalk

Two Tuesdays back Z and I headed to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk for what we intended to be a short trip.  The plan was to drive over the hill, spend about an hour in the ocean, teaching Z to dive under waves and maybe body surf a bit, then get our annual Old Tyme photo.  I suppose I should backtrack a bit here to fill y’all in on one of our most cherished traditions…

The only thing Z and I enjoy more than road trippin’ is Saturday morning cuddle time.  We curl up together, each wrapped in a fuzzy blanket and watch whatever classic cartoon series that I’ve decided to indoctrinate her with (currently Hong Kong Phooey). Alas, it has been difficult to combine these two loves. We did start taking along the laptop to watch our cartoons, but then we end up with the mediocre or scratchy motel blankets which, frankly, aren’t conducive to…

Rainy Evening At Fisherman’s Wharf

Saturday afternoon Z had a memorial service to attend, so our weekend got a late start. Without any real plan, we headed north on 280 and cut over to PCH (Highway 1) via Highway 92. The section of PCH between Half Moon Bay and San Francisco has now been checked off Z’s list of highways traveled. Unfortunately we didn’t really stop at any of the nifty sites along the way as Z still hasn’t learned to speak up and ask…

When Parenting Gets Tough

Posted on November 24, 2007 - Filed Under Fatherhood, Road Trippin' | Leave a Comment

Z and I have had a deal for a little over a month now that in order for her to receive the benefits of all the cool trips and “toys” in the future she would have to earn them. This is because she was becoming spoiled in the literal sense: she honestly felt that she deserved all of the things she was getting simply because she continued to breathe. That’s what she’s essentially been taught for the last 11 years,…
