Turning Check 21 To Your Advantage

In 2004 Congress passed the Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act, better known as Check 21. This allowed banks to accept the scanned image of a check in lieu of receiving the physical check. It saved the banks a fortune in transport and handling costs as well as allowing checks to “clear” within 24 hours of receipt by a merchant essentially ending the “float” depended on by both the impoverished and scammers everywhere. Quick Update On Deposits

On Tuesday I initiated an online transfer from VirtualBank to NetBank as well as mailing off a check to HSBC.
- No word on the HSBC check, but the VirtualBank transfer completed Thursday.
On Wednesday I sent a QuickPost deposit to NetBank.
- It was credited last night.
Today, Friday, I initiated a transfer from NetBank to VirtualBank (via VB). It will be interesting to see how the weekend affects transfer time.

Received a nice letter in the mail yesterday welcoming me to VirtualBank. The weird thing is that the letter had been sent with the envelope unsealed. You could look at the glue on the flapand tell that moisture had never been applied to it. Not exactly something that inspires confidence in a bank.
