Stampeded By Stumblers

Wow! I leave the house for less than three hours and return to find that not only has Philaahzophy’s traffic more than doubled for the day, but it’s almost entirely from one source: StumbleUpon. Roughly 40 people an hour have been visiting last night’s How I Know I’m Still Passing PageRank and they’re still coming! Wow!

I gotta say I’m impressed. I’ve largely ignored StumbleUpon as I just don’t “get” it. The idea of going to random pages on the ‘net just…

In Further Google PageRank Weirdness

You probably haven’t heard of Subvert And Profit, but Google sure has. In fact Google seems to find them a pretty reliable source of information on the web as evidenced by the fact that the toolbar pagerank for subvertandprofit.com is a 4. That means that Google has more faith in Subvert and Profit then they ever did in Philaahzophy even before they decided I was untrustworthy because I get paid for posting my opinions.

What trustworthy information or service does Subvert and…

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics three of the fastest growing occupations in America are network systems and data communications analysts, computer software engineers, and computer systems analysts, all of which generally require a bachelor’s degree (at least). Living in Silicon Valley I know dozens of folx with these skills and these degrees who are getting burned out on their jobs, but feel trapped due to the expertise and connections they’ve developed over the years. Well, capella university may…

How I Know I’m Still Passing PageRank

Posted on December 18, 2007 - Filed Under Blogging, Technology | 9 Comments

I was so excited in late October when I was finally given a Google PageRank of 3 here at Philaahzophy. Not only did this mean that I was doing a good job of building the blog into something worthwhile, but it also allowed me to earn more money advertising here. Then came the giant Googlesmack in mid-November. I was first dropped to a PR2, then all the way back down to PR0. This was even worse then being PR:N/A as it states that…

Researching European Travel 2.0

Posted on December 18, 2007 - Filed Under Travel | Leave a Comment

The internet is, by far, the easiest and most efficient method around for gathering information about a destination before a journey. As a result, there are probably a million or more websites out there dedicated to travel guides and reservations at this point, and each one is trying to differentiate itself from the others. While researching destinations in Scandinavia (Z and her friend K have expressed an interest in traveling there) I came across the Europe Hotel Guide at HotelsByCity.net. More…

Is It Time To Move Philaahzophy?

I’ve been going back through old posts, cleaning up the editing and rearranging some things lately. Apparently, this has put quite a bit of strain on my web host’s database server. I know this because when I’m editing a lot of old posts I start getting Server Error 500 messages. Of course, I called my web hosting company to see what the problem was and they informed me that the database server can only handle 15 simultaneous accesses. I don’t know…
