Turning Snapshots Into Works Of Art

Posted on April 22, 2008 - Filed Under Shopping | Leave a Comment

Three years ago I doubt I had more than a half dozen photographs. These days, thanx to Z, I’m taking three dozen or more every week. The problem is that many of them capture the moment acceptably but don’t really have the power necessary to be blown up and placed as the central art in a room. Coming from a family of painters I’ve always found photographs a little ‘cold’ for display.

Thanks to PaintYourLife.com I can now have the best…

Get A Thank You From Your Postman This Mother’s Day

Posted on April 11, 2008 - Filed Under Shopping | Leave a Comment

Common wisdom holds that the few days before Mother’s Day are the busiest at any post office. Millions of Americans suddenly remember that someone actually gave birth to them, trudge off to the nearest store, pick some flower-imprinted card from the plethora of available options, add a quick signature, paste on a stamp, and burden hard working postal employees with the task of insuring their missive arrives on time. Now you can END THE MADNESS!

No, I’m not saying you shouldn’t…

Apparently, It’s All About The Denim

Last month I introduced y’all to a site I came across for Junior Clothing while shopping for Z’s birthday present. I even picked out a few items I thought she might like and received rave reviews :)  Score one for the old man.  But then, this last Sunday Z wore jeans to church.  Huh?  What about all the cute skirts I’d bought for her.  Apparently two things occurred - 1)  her legs, and thus her stride, have gotten longer, making the…

Sending Valentines Day Roses Again? Where’s The Originality?

Posted on February 11, 2008 - Filed Under Shopping | Leave a Comment

How many women are going to receive valentines day roses on Thursday? Millions? Tens of millions? More than a hundred million? Wouldn’t surprise me. Now, don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with people sending flowers to their loved ones on Valentine’s Day, but don’t you think red roses have been kind of done to death?  How about some nice daisies or pansies?  What about orchids?  My grandmother used to grow the most beautiful orchids, and when you have them…

Attention men! (Women are fully aware I’m sure)

Valentine’s day is less than one month away! It’s time to get moving on that list of things to do for your significant other. If you’re constantly stymied by what to give for V-day, then 1-800-Flowers can hook you up. They not only have flowers (duh) but also valentines chocolate, gift baskets, stuffed critters and any other sweet little trinket you could think to have delivered to your loved one on Valentine’s…

Clothing For My Angel from Heavenly Couture

Posted on January 11, 2008 - Filed Under Fatherhood, Shopping | 2 Comments

Okay, Z’s more devil than angel lately, but the title works much better this way ;)

It’s only a month to Z’s birthday, so it’s time to start considering her gift. The last couple of years I’ve taken her clothes shopping for her birthday, because I know essentially nothing about contemporary clothing. I’ve been learning, though and think I may be ready to buy clothes on my own at this point. Sure, the shopping aspect is part of the fun, but…
