For example, when I bought Rover (he’s our beloved 1989 Ford Bronco in case you’re new here) the price was a little higher than necessary because he came with factory installed air conditioning. Of course, more than 20 years later and the air conditioning compressor has gone the way of the dodo. So, I went shopping for a Ford ac compressor online and discountacparts.com was my first stop. It’s a great site with a wonderful selection that’s easy to navigate, though the prices weren’t so hot. Still, it’s nice to know there’s one place that will always have the parts Rover needs in stock.

Apparently this was a result of my now qualifying for the “GEICO Safe Driver Discount”. You see, I’ve never had an accident or an insurance claim since I first received my driver’s license way back in 1986. It just took GEICO a couple of years to understand that simple fact. Feeling somewhat wealthy at the moment I received the latest bill I immediately paid the entire balance via their website, forgoing my usual four payment system. But wait, there’s more…

The following week I received another large packet from GEICO. This one included a complete new policy, and another revision to my car insurance rate: $164.80! That’s another $30.50 in savings, or a total of 12% over my previous six months premium. Apparently, not only am I a “GEICO Safe Driver” now, but I also qualify for a “5 Year Good Driving” discount. Go me! And go GEICO for recognizing it. Only one problem – I’d already paid the higher premium. So, torn between exulting in my new lower insurance premium and wondering how I was going to get that $30 back I set the two packets aside for 48 hours.

Upon checking my bank account the next day (a constant habit of mine) I discovered that GEICO hadalready credited the $30.50 back into my account! Now that is customer service, my friends!

Regular readers have frequently heard me mention Rover, my 1989 Ford Bronco. When I needed a “new” car, Z and I decided to get something large, despite the extra gas costs, so we could be comfortable on road trips. Rover filled the bill so well that we no longer actually go road tripping. Instead, we go ‘Rover Tripping’.

We love Rover (despite the fact he needs a new transmission), but imagine my surprise when my local radio station shared the following news story.

Former Beatle Paul McCartney and his current girlfriend are taking a road trip down Route 66 in a 1989 Ford Bronco…

That’s my car! Paul McCartney could, literally, choose any car in the world to take on his road trip, but instead of going with a pink Cadillac or a ’57 Chevy convertible, he chose the twin of the very vehicle I drive! That is soooo cool!

IN an attempt to figure out what inspired McCartney’s wise choice I headed over to my favorite Canadian used cars website – Auto123.com (Canadians are kind of like Brits aren’t they?). I’m a fan of this particular site because they feature both consumer and professional reviews of cars. That way you get both the realistic, hands-on view and the thoughts of people who spend most of their waking hours playing with automobiles.

Unfortunately, they didn’t have any reviews on 1989 Ford Broncos (though they had listings of many for sale). They have, however, teamed up with Travelika to run their Drive, Rate and Fly contest. Simply evaluate a car on their site and you’ll be entered into a sweepstakesto win $5,000 or a 3-day vacation for two.

I cannot encourage you enough to go visit difficultisworthdoing.com via the link above. What you’ll find there is an amazing look at what goes into making an epic advertisement like the latest one for the Honda Accord. We’re talking step by step, day by day with bunches of photos and videos to show you just how much effort something like this takes. It truly is an amazing look at how these things get done.

If a company is willing to go to this much effort just to make a commercial for the telly, then how much do you think they’re willing to put into the making of their flagship car: the Honda Accord? It seems limitless. Honda has always listened to its customers and now they’re instructing they’re advertising companies to do the same and the world is a much richer place for it. In fact, in the series of four ‘teaser’ ads leading up to the debut of the epic ad itself the word “Honda” doesn’t even appear! Check out this first in the series to see what I mean-

Living the bulk of my life in California (and traditionally being a late sleeper) I’ve only rarely walked out to my car on a cold morning only to discover the windshield so covered with frost that I couldn’t see out of it. However, while chatting with a native New Hampshirite the other day he passed on a tip to avoid this problem even on the coldest of mornings…

It was news to me, but did you know that vinegar melts ice? Just mix three parts vinegar to one part water and fill your wiper reservoir with the solution. On cold evenings just spray the windshield before park for the night. If there is any frost in the morning the vinegar will melt it off before you can even buckle your seatbelt. But that’s not the only benefit. The vinegar also helps clean off those bug parts and bird droppings that seem to always hit the windshield right after you’ve left the gas station.
