Today, nobody sees, or wishes to see, that in our time the enslavement of the majority of men is based on money taxes, levied on land and otherwise, which are collected by government from the subjects. »» Leo Tolstoy

Introducing The Third Wave Of Imported Horror Films

Posted on May 4, 2008 - Filed Under Movies/TV | 1 Comment

The First Wave of Imported Horror-

When I was a kid all of the best (read bloodiest and most intense) horror films came from Italy. Sure, we had Freddy Kreuger and Jason Voorhees, but tracking down multi-generation VHS tapes of of Italian horror films was what all the true gore aficionados were into.

The Second Wave Of Imported Horror-

In the 1990s Japan stole Italy’s crown and suddenly everyone was watching American remakes of Japanese horror films while the truly dedicated were buying…

How Greedy Writers (and Labor Unions) Ruined My Life

Posted on April 13, 2008 - Filed Under Movies/TV | 2 Comments

Okay, okay, they didn’t ruin my entire life, just one portion of it. Although I’ve only briefly mentioned my Big Brother obsession in passing prior to this point, I apparently now have yet another reason to detest labor unions and striking workers: Big Brother 9: ‘Til Death Do We Part.

I’d largely avoided Big Brother until last summer when Season 8’s Evil Dick took the nation by storm and proved that honesty, strong game play, and being a huge jerk can all…

Yesterday was the big day - Super Bowl Sunday. The day that all Americans set aside to gather their friends, order pizza, stock up on beer and circle the wide screen TV to partake in that all-American pastime - the new Super Bowl television commercials! I’ve never been a football fan (or a fan of Alvin and his Chipmunk brethren, but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate a good Super Bowl commercial -

Okay, so it’s not actually Alvin himself getting creamed…

User Video Hits Prime Time TV Big Time

As much as I enjoy big budget motion pictures, there’s still some carnal appeal in seeing actual videos made by real people. Obviously I’m not alone in this feeling or video sites wouldn’t be springing up all over the internet. Not an hour goes by that I don’t stumble across some new user created video content on the web, even when I’m not looking for it. As my regular readers know I recently acquired a video camera. Z also got…

Bare Your Soul To Johnny Depp

Posted on November 29, 2007 - Filed Under Movies/TV | 1 Comment

I grew up in a theater family. My grandfather was famous throughout Northern California for playing Tevia in Fiddler On The Roof, my uncle still makes his living as a stage actor, and I was in my first play at the age of 6. Obviously, we attended the theater frequently, but I was mostly just a bored kid. Until, that is, I saw the road production of Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street in the early 1980s. Now…

Like Lambs Leading Lions To The Slaughter

Posted on November 11, 2007 - Filed Under Movies/TV | Leave a Comment

I was going to skip seeing Lions To Lambs, because I couldn’t really figure out from the trailers what the film was actually about. Thank god for boredom, because that’s what led me to see it yesterday. This movie is true storytelling in a way I’ve never before seen on film. Though I’m still not sure I can tell you what it’s about. The entire film essentially takes place in real time in three different settings all covering one powerful…
