Many politicians are in the habit of laying it down as a self-evident proposition that no people ought to be free till they are fit to use their freedom. The maxim is worthy of the fool in the old story who resolved not to go into the water till he had learned to swim. »» Thomas Macaulay

Philaahzophy Posts On "Aahz"-

Subcategories: Fatherhood | Ride Reports | Road Trippin' |

Hi! I’m Aahz and this category is all about me :) It’s where I post things that don’t necessarily relate to anything else here at Philaahzophy and are (probably) not of any interest to those who don’t know me personally.

Of course, it’s also home to several sub-categories all of which may very well be of interest to complete strangers. So I suppose you’ll just have to explore for yourself…

Cyclone Door Accident At Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

Posted on August 6, 2008 - Filed Under Ride Reports | 3 Comments

One of Z’s favorite rides at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk reportedly started falling apart on Monday.  Apparently the entrance ramp/door to the Cyclone opened while in motion and banged into the interior ride a few times before the ride-op could shut it completely down.  Although news reports are full of quotes like “[t]he door flew off and almost killed my…

RideMax Software For Disneyland Resort Is Sorely Disappointing

Posted on August 3, 2008 - Filed Under Ride Reports, Technology, Travel | Leave a Comment

I first heard about RideMax software in January while researching Disneyland information prior to Z’s birthday trip there with her mother. My early impressions were both positive and exciting - software to schedule your day at the Disneyland Resort (Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure Park) in such a way to maximize the number of rides while minimizing the wait time.…

Legally Blind On the Boardwalk

Posted on August 3, 2008 - Filed Under Fatherhood, Health Care | Leave a Comment

Two Tuesdays back Z and I headed to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk for what we intended to be a short trip.  The plan was to drive over the hill, spend about an hour in the ocean, teaching Z to dive under waves and maybe body surf a bit, then get our annual Old Tyme photo.  I suppose I should…

Who Says You Can’t Cuddle On The Road?

Posted on August 3, 2008 - Filed Under Road Trippin', Travel | Leave a Comment

The only thing Z and I enjoy more than road trippin’ is Saturday morning cuddle time.  We curl up together, each wrapped in a fuzzy blanket and watch whatever classic cartoon series that I’ve decided to indoctrinate her with (currently Hong Kong Phooey). Alas, it has been difficult to combine these two loves. We did start taking along the laptop to…

Getting It All Back Together

Posted on July 28, 2008 - Filed Under Fatherhood | 1 Comment

Wow!  It’s been a really great summer.  I suppose I should say it was a really great summer, ’cause mine’s over now.  It started early (with the trip to Hard Rock Park’s opening in May) so I suppose it’s only fair that it end early as well. Tomorrow Z boards a plane to visit my mother for two weeks, then…

Answering Concerns About Cedar Fair And Disabilities

Posted on July 11, 2008 - Filed Under Health Care, Ride Reports | Leave a Comment

Part of the Cedar Fair’s Disabled Rider Policy Series - Previous in series

Yesterday I praised Cedar Fair on their new policy that disabled guests now need to wait just as long as everyone else to experience the rides at Cedar Fair amusement parks.  Since I wanted to share as many details as possible the post ran fairly long. …

Bravo To Cedar Fair!

Part of the Cedar Fair’s Disabled Rider Policy Series -         Next in series

Now there’s a headline I never thought I’d write.

My regular readers are aware that my “day job” is caring for developmentally disabled adults. In fact, I work more than 100 hours per week doing this, so it’s more like my three day jobs. You should also be…

Car Rental For $1 A Day? Now, That’s An Advantage!

Posted on July 10, 2008 - Filed Under Road Trippin', Travel | Leave a Comment

Working so many hours I find myself seeking more and more interesting vacation ideas. These days my most frequent problem isn’t paying for the vacation itself, but losing the time at work (working in social services provides zero traditional benefits like sick/vacation time). This, of course, means I need to fly to places instead of drive, which leaves me stuck with…
