When I was a kid I loved seafood. It was actually my favorite food. I had forgotten over the years that kids generally do not like fish (other than fishsticks) much luss other seafoods until I started taking Z out to some of my favorite restaurants. Well, she’s been excellent at coming out of her shell a bit and trying new dishes. In fact, last night she not only discovered that she likes crab, but she thoroughly enjoyed learning how to crack the shells open and dig out the meat as well.
Next up, Gulf oysters (hopefully since we’ll be nearer the Gulf soon we can get them very fresh). Oysters are a tricky food to introduce to someone, but I’ve developed a fair amount of trust. And sending Z the link to BeOysterAware.com was an excellent step in getting her a little closer to trying these delicacies of the sea. The information had her a bit nervous at first, but once she read the ’safe oyster’ recipes she was nearly hooked.
