There’s a new entrant in the business social networking arena. And I do mean new. As in, they appear to have fewer than 100 members thus far. So far, MyCityFaces.com is looking pretty good. The interface is slick and intuitive while the layout and design manages to be both attractive and professional in appearance.
The concept is pretty simple. Business people (micro, small or large) create an account and complete their profile for free. In addition to the basics (industry, company, address, phone email, website), members can add photos, details on their current promotions, list their favorite local business at which to eat or hangout, and, of course, complete an “About Me” section with as much or as little information as you desire. The social networking comes in with the recommendation section. This is the MyCityFaces version of MySpace’s friends feature. Though, hopefully, they will be more genuine recommendations than just another number to brag (or mourn) about.
MyCityFaces does still have some bugs and quirks to work out, though. While exploring the site I first visited the area for San Jose, CA. Surprised to see a florist with the unlikely name of Mindy Flower, I clicked her picture to get some details. As regular readers know I’m a big fan of sending (and receiving) flowers. Here’s the basic info from Mindy’s profile-

Notice anything strange there? I was in the San Jose, California section while Flowers From Heaven has a Scottsdale, Arizona address and is advertising that they supply flowers in San Diego! Hrm… Not exactly a big vote of confidence for a site designed to connect local businesses with local customers. Sure, it’s only an example profile, but still…
