Common wisdom holds that the few days before Mother’s Day are the busiest at any post office. Millions of Americans suddenly remember that someone actually gave birth to them, trudge off to the nearest store, pick some flower-imprinted card from the plethora of available options, add a quick signature, paste on a stamp, and burden hard working postal employees with the task of insuring their missive arrives on time. Now you can END THE MADNESS!
No, I’m not saying you shouldn’t celebrate or honor your mother on Sunday, May 11th. That choice is entirely yours. But should you decide to celebrate Mother’s Day this year (once again, that’s Sunday, May 11th - 30 days from today) may I recommend you cut your postal carrier some slack, leave those flowered cards in their rack and go for the real thing instead? 1-800-Flowers has a near-infinite selection of flower arrangements and floral bouquets that will fit the tastes of any Mom.
What’s that? Your Mother doesn’t like flowers? Well, first off I don’t believe you. Everyone loves flowers. Even people with allergies like flowers. However, if you’re dead set against sending flowers (or your mother does happen to be allergic) 1-800-Flowers can still meet your Mother’s Day needs (once again - don’t forget - Sunday, May 11th) while still sparing your mailman from his back breaking work. That’s because they also offer gift baskets, candy bouquets, wine and cheese, and even non-flowering houseplants.
Excuse me? All your Mom really wants is a card and a call? BBBZZZTTT! Wrong again. That’s just what they say to make us feel better. Besides whether you order the woman who was in labor for 127 hours simply to bring you into this world a gift from 1-800-Flowers or not, you can still enter their “Celebrate Mom For Who She Is Contest”. Just write a story about your Mom and forward it to them (along with a photo or video) by April 21st (that would be 20 days before Mother’s Day - Sunday May 11th) and you could win a share of over $30,000 in prizes. They even have a Mr. Mom category for those whose mother’s always seemed a bit different.
Now if I could only remember when Mother’s Day is…
