Finally Got Those Storm Pics Posted
Posted on January 4, 2008 - Filed Under Road Trippin' | Leave a Comment
On the way back from picking up Z I drove down a street that I had been down a mere 15 minutes earlier. I chose that street because it was flooded and driving through floodwaters in a 4×4 is fun.
Well, it was no longer flooded, but there was a giant tree felled across it. We estimate the trunk of…

Need A New Way To Fundraise Online?
Posted on January 4, 2008 - Filed Under Education, Fatherhood | 2 Comments
I went to private school for 8th-12th grades. One of the things that bugged me was that we were always doing fund raisers for something. Z’s in public school and we have the same problem (though now I’m on the opposite end). shoutback thinks they’re the answer to fund raising woes and we made this little video to help spread the…

Storm Madness In Gilroy and Morgan Hill

I just went to pick up Z because her Mom won’t drive in this weather (I don’t blame her, but Rover was built for this kind of weather). On the way down I passed bunches of branches, trash cans, etc in the middle of the street, but the worst was a guy whose car was stuck in the middle of…

For Those Who Think Corporate Propaganda Is A New Thing

About 15 years ago I stumbled across a fascinating book (that was already dated at the time) about the history of capital punishment. This was not a political history, but a technological one. It dealt with the various methods governments have used throughout the ages to execute criminals. I was about halfway through when I accidently left the book in…

Posted on January 4, 2008 - Filed Under Health Care | Leave a Comment
According to Reuters, a japanese firm has taken the concept of Universal Health Care to its logical conclusion-
TOKYO (Reuters) - Hoping to send the message that pets are life-long partners not disposable accessories, a Japanese maker of medicines for animals has begun giving employees who own dogs or cats a monthly “family allowance” for their pets.
The number of pets in…

Rain, Rain Go Away
Posted on January 4, 2008 - Filed Under Travel | Leave a Comment
Its poring rain here in Northern California and has been for more than 24 hours with roughly 72 hours left in the storm according to the weather reports. It seems our first real rain of the winter is actually strong enough and heavy enough to make the national news. ::sigh:: This is not why I live in California. And, to…

BlogRush - The Widget That Wouldn’t Die

Part of the Adventures In BlogRushing Series - Previous in series
Well, it’s been almost two months since I last wrote about Blogrush, but it seems the story is not over yet. Check out these two screenshots from Clicky (my web analytics program)-

They clearly show that despite my removing the widget, requesting removal, mocking them incessantly and, finally, being…

Let The Games Begin! Iowa Caucus 85%-97% In
Posted on January 3, 2008 - Filed Under Vote 2008 | Leave a Comment
The first actual contest in the Presidential race has just about concluded. The Republican results are rather predictable with 85% of precincts reporting-
- Mike Huckabee - 34%
- Mitt Romney - 25%
- Fred Thompson -14%
- John McCain - 13%
- Ron Paul - 10%
- Rudy Giuliani - 4%
- Duncan Hunter - 0%
The Democratic side, however, was shocking (at least to me) with 97% of precincts reporting-
- Barack Obama - 38%
- John…
