Giving The Gift Of Wine – Monthly

I recently received a sample package from The Gold Medal Wine Club. This was a bit ironic since I don’t drink (though not nearly ironic as my having worked in a liquor store for three years as a non-drinker). But I do love giving gifts, so it was still a wonderful treat to receive. The package was the latest of Gold Medal’s wine of the month offerings.

Inside the well designed packaging I found two bottles of wine (2005 Belvedere Chardonnay, and 2004 Bradford Mountain Vineyard Zinfandel), a wonderful gift card, and the latest copy of their newsletter: The Wine Press. The entire package wreaks of quality and will make a wonderful gift presentation not only the first time they receive it, but month after month for as many months as you desire (in other words, there’s no minimum or maximum set by Gold Medal).
The newsletter contains eight glossy pages of wine info with articles on that month’s wines, vineyards, personality profiles, survey results, wonderful recipes, and even a comic strip. Did you know that California’s Zinfandel grape is the same as an indigenous Croatian grape called Crljenak? Well, neither did anyone else until a genetic mapping expert from UC Davis ran genetic tests on them. Until then, people believed that Zinfandel grapes originated around the Adriatic Sea.
