I’ve been carefully watching the Black Friday deals as they began to be leaked about a month ago. I do this every year looking for new tech gadgets and computer equipment at “rock bottom” prices. Alas, this year’s deals really paled in comparison to previous savings when it comes to electronics. Quite a few major corporate chains actually started serious price slashing earlier this week, but the electronics deals were pretty much all on old crap that only seems to still be available in the stores so that they can claim some amazing price break on them. In other words, garbage I’m not really interested in. Still, I’ve been dying to finally burn my old CRT monitor and get another flat screen monitor (my last one was stolen two years ago), and I’m always shopping for both more IBM memory and a “new” computer. New is in quotes because I buy computers the same way I buy cars - always at least a year old so I’m not simply throwing money away. Anyway, long story medium, I ended up blowing off the so called “deals” and simply went to eBay where I got a slightly used flat screen for half the cost of the doorbuster deals, and a refurbished Dell P4 3.0Ghz for only slightly more than the eMachines Celeron 1.8Ghx systems being offered on Black Friday.
