(Whaddya mean that’s not the way the old saying goes?!?)
I’ve been pretty irritable for the last few days as Halloween has been approaching. Halloween is the only holiday that I actually celebrate . Holidays have always seemed sort of arbitrary to me. But the spookiness of Halloween has always appealed to my darker side. So, it was with heavy heart that I asked Z three weeks ago if she’d mind my not dressing up for Halloween this year. She was aghast at the idea and it was quickly nixed. Imagine how crushed I was when she then called me on Sunday to cancel our Halloween plans! She decided she wanted to stay at home and celebrate with her mother instead. So now her mom’s latest boyfriend (father to the recent sibling addition) will be taking Z trick or treating while I stay at home.
Alas, all is not lost. A short time ago my doorbell rang and I was presented with a bouquet of Halloween flowers! It seems a friend of mine couldn’t stand the thought of me having a depressing (rather than terrifying) Halloween so visited some online florists and found this suitably spooky yellow, deep purple and orange ‘Boo-kay’! There’s nothing like flowers to brighten (or even darken
) one’s day.
