The Grandfather of Time Pieces

A couple of months ago I wrote about the mantel clocks available from 1-800-4clocks.com. It wasn’t until I recently read a post on their grandfather clocks blog that I realized there were so many different types of grandfather clocks.

  1. Round Top Grandfather Clocks look kind of like old-school gas pumps with the bubble top. The cabinet forms itself directly around the circular clock face.
  2. Flat Top Grandfather Clocks are the most rectangular style with a flat top (obviously) that could actually make an interesting place to land a mantel clock.
  3. Bonnet Topped Grandfather Clocks have a curved top, but straight sides. They’re kind of a cross between the flat top and round top clocks.
  4. Split Pediment Grandfather Clocks (also known as Swans Neck) are my favorite. These are the type where the cabinet above the clock face is split and stylized (typically with each side looking somewhat like a swan’s neck).

1-800-4Clocks.com isn’t just a great clock blog, though. They also offer the guaranteed lowest prices on dozens of grandfather clocks from such famed manufacturers as Hermle, Howard Miller, Kleninger, and Ridgeway. Nothing compares to the beauty and class of a quality grandfather clock. Not only are they visually attractive (and available in enough styles to match any decor), but their resonant chimes recall a time when people were courteous by nature.

oh that’s just all I need… I’m already obsessed with timepieces (which I’ve published articles about on Associated Content under MKJohnson just so I’d have an excuse to peruse lots and lots of watch magazines) and now I have this to go stare at. :-D Thanks for the hit to my productivity this evening (I wasn’t getting much done anyway)
