Y’all know I’m not much of a music fan, but when Z called me this morning to ask permission to attend a Kelly Clarkson concert as part of a friend’s birthday party I couldn’t turn her down. When I was 8 years old my mother refused to give permission for my father to take me to see a concert in Los Angeles - Pink Floyd’s The Wall. I can only imagine how different my life would have been had I attended such a historical moment.
Z called and woke me up because her friend had just purchased the tickets this morning and she needed to know who could go right away. Of course, she’s still got to get permission from her mother…
My griping to my roommates about being woken up led to a conversation about waiting in line overnight for concert tickets and for which concerts we’d be willing to do so. Without a doubt, the Led Zeppelin reunion tour would get the longest wait for me. I may have missed The Wall, but seeing Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason “son of late drummer John” Bonham reunite under the Led Zeppelin banner in London and headlining the memorial to Ahmet Ertegun, founder of Atlantic Records, would go a long way towards making up for that. How amazing would it be to share such an experience with Z? Especially only a few shorts weeks after she got all gaga over the “musical stylings” of an American Idol winner?
