I’ve never been much of a fan of online chat. Well, technically that’s not true. Back in the early BBS days I loved chatting in real time with the Sysop of whatever bulletin board system I was visiting. It made me feel special to have direct content with the great people who dedicated so much effort to creating virtual playgrounds. It’s chat rooms that I truly dislike. They’re just too chaotic and the signal-to-noise ratio is way too low to have any genuine conversation in my opinion.
Apparently WireClub thought the same thing, so they’ve redesigned their free chat rooms to focus on smaller, dedicated communities. This is definitely moving in the right direction. They’ve got a very clean and easy to navigate site and plenty of users that have joined “clubs” for just about any interest you may have. Even if there isn’t, then starting your own club couldn’t be much easier, bringing fellow hobbyists directly to you. WireClub is truly dedicated to fulfilling your online communication needs (or desires), whatever they may be. In addition to chat communities they also offer space for blogs, sharing photos and much more.
I’m still not sold that online chat is a good use of my time, but WireClub is certainly worth further investigation.
