When I was young I was taught that the police were my friends. My ex-wife works with the Highway Patrol and my daughter actually has several adult friends who are police officers. However, I refuse to teach her that police officers, as a rule, are her friends. Instead I have to keep pointing out stories like this.

According to Reuters, the New Zealand government has made life better and safer for its citizens once again. What wonderful service has this government performed, you ask? Well, the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages has refused to allow Pat and Sheena Wheaton to name their two month old baby son 4Real. Now he will be legally named Superman instead, and 4Real will only be a nickname.
Thank God for government! Just imagine the horrible things that could happen without government…

14 Days and Counting…

In exactly two weeks my daughter will officially be in Junior High. Okay, it’s technically called Middle School, but still. It’s a new school with new friends, enemies and teachers, not to mention an entirely new scheduling system with multiple classes to attend and a lot more options then she’s had in the past. I feel like she’s well prepared, overall: she achieved honor roll regularly at her elementary school and was class president, but I’m also worried about her…
