The folks at IBackup have asked me to share a little information about their online storage offers. Frankly, this was on my list of tools to discuss anyway, but their request has moved it up the line. I first learned of IBackup from a friend a few weeks back when my home system crashed… hard. I went without access to my needed files and folders for about 12 days and it was absolutely miserable, not to mention unproductive. He uses IBackup for not only online storage and backup, but sharing work files as well.
The real beauty of the IBackup system is that their WebFolders system is essentially “invisible FTP”. If you don’t know what “FTP” means, then you need IBackup even more, because you don’t need to know with their system. It’s all super simple. You merely signup for IBackup, download a small application, and then install WebFolders directly on your desktop. You can then drag ‘n’ drop files and folders directly into these WebFolders just like any other folder on your computer. The important (and invisible) difference is that although the folders appear on your desktop, the files are actually stored online. Not only are they protected from your home system crashing, but you can set them to be accessible from any computer (and by any person) you choose. So even if your home system does crash, you can be back at work as soon as you get back online from any computer.
