Online Savings Updates

VirtualBank-
Received a nice letter in the mail yesterday welcoming me to VirtualBank. The weird thing is that the letter had been sent with the envelope unsealed. You could look at the glue on the flapand tell that moisture had never been applied to it. Not exactly something that inspires confidence in a bank.
However, my initial deposit cleared today and my account is now accessible online. I scheduled a $75 transfer back to my checking account to see how long those transfers will take.
HSBC-
Upon opening my HSBC Direct online savings account I couldn’t help but notice the “Deposit By Mail” advertising they were doing. Clicking over to the linked page I find the simple instructions for how to mail in a deposit including the prominent line: “Don’t forget to include a deposit slip”. Well, I had not been sent any deposit slips, so I sent a BankMail asking how I could get some and was told they would be $7.95. Okay, so I ordered some. I ordered some and about 500 deposit slips arrived on Friday (way more than I’ll ever use). Paying $8 for more deposit slips than I need doesn’t exactly make me happy, but since they gave me $25 to open the account, I’m not too upset. Until today.
Today I go back to the same page in order to find the address to mail off a deposit. Right there on the very page that I sought information before is a prominent link to a deposit slip in PDF format. In other words, as soon as I paid $8, they started offering them for free. I HATE when that happens!!!
Regardless, I’m sending off a deposit by mail today, so we’ll se how long it takes to be credited to my account.
